Abstract
Why should there be a book on cellular and molecular biological aspects of Candida albicans? Though many monographs and review articles on Candida and candidosis have appeared in recent years, they mostly deal with the clinical aspects. My association with C. albicans began almost 15 years ago. Its importance was as relevant then, as it is today. In fact, in recent years, the incidences of candidosis have multiplied markedly, especially with the increase in the use of immunosuppressive drugs and the alarming spread of AIDS.
