Keratin ist ein wesentlicher Bestandteil der Hornlamellen, die im Verbund mit den Interzellularsubstanzen in der Haut die Hornschicht mit der Barrierefunktion bilden und den Nägeln und Haaren die physikalischen Eigenschaften geben.
