Abstract

It is a personal pleasure and privilege to congratulate my old associate and friend, Konrad Federlin, on his 60th birthday. For very many years we were marching in one line towards the final goal: to achieve academic independence for realizing what we had in mind to do in clinical research and, after having obtained that freedom, to fill the empty spaces which obviously lay ahead with fruitful ideas and productive work.
