Metal Speciation in the Environment

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASIG,volume 23))

Abstract

For the solution of problems in the environmental sciences elemental determinations are of crucial importance. They are indispensible for studies of the mobility of elements and their compounds in complex systems. Because trace elements interact and collectively influence biological activities, knowledge about the concentrations of as many elements as possible is very desirable. Therefore, trace analytical methodologies with multielement capability are needed. Among the modern analytical methods for the determination of trace elements, plasma atomic spectrometry is very powerful (Broekaert and Tölg, 1987). The power of detection and the reliability are high and it may be used for the determination of trace element compounds.
