Zusammenfassung
Die Computertomographie hat einen hervorragenden Platz in der radiologischen Diagnostik des Mediastinums eingenommen. Vor der CT-Ära wurden mediastinale Prozesse mit einer Palette direkter und indirekter radiologischer Abbildungsmethoden mit unterschiedlicher Invasivität abgeklärt: Nach Durchleuchtung und Röntgenaufnahmen des Thorax, ggf. mit Ösophagographie, folgten konventionelle Tomographie, Szintigraphie, Arteriographie und Venographie der Hauptäste mediastinaler Gefäße bis hin zum Pneumomediastinum. Der jetzige hohe technische Standard der Computertomographie hat diese Vielfalt beendet. In den meisten Fällen folgt die mediastinale Computertomographie (MCT) den Röntgenübersichtsaufnahmen des Thorax.
