Abstract
Four types of hydrated selenates were investigated by single crystal X-ray and neutron diffraction, by powder X-ray diffraction and by thermal analysis (TG, DSC). The compounds were pentahydrates M”Se04. 5H2O with M” = Mn, Co, Fe, Cu, Zn; hexahydrates M”Se04. 6H20 with M” = Ni, Zn; the Semendozite NaAl(Se04)2.11H20 and alums of the general formula M’Al(Se04)2. 12H20 with M’ = K, Rb, Cs. The aim of our study is to establish a correlation between the thermal stability of a given compound and its dehydration behaviour on one side and the crystal structure and hydrogen bonding network on the other side.
