Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASIH,volume 7))

Abstract

The quantification of neurological diseases has to monitor the symptoms of the patient and the clinical signs. In polyneuropathies the patient should grade his symptoms like muscle weakness, dysaesthesias, numbness, pain and vegetative disorders with a list of words in which he can grade his symptoms according to frequency, intensity and extension. The descriptions should be designed to be understood by all groups of the population (1, 2). The neurological examination has to monitor the muscle weakness and sensory deficits in their extension and degree so that they are graded by different examiners in the same way.
