Abstract

In addition to pharmacotherapy, parkinsonian tremor and spasmodic torticollis can effectively be treated by small stereotaxic lesions in the ventrolateral thalamus [6]. As a side effect, postoperatively a contralateral hypotonia in postural tone is observed [10, 11]. For instance, parkinsonian rigidity and tremor are abolished, but no loss of force, epicritic sensitivity or ataxia are observed, and the phasic stretch reflexes remain unchanged.
