Summary

The causes of posttraumatic patella luxation are reviewed, and special attention is given to the importance of endogenous anomalies in the femoro-patellar joint related to the recurrent luxation.

As treatment, surgical revision of the knee joint is recommended. Most local operations on the cartilage and other corrective surgical procedures to stabilize the patella lead to good results.

Results from 53 patients are presented. The majority were operated on because of recurrence after posttraumatic patella luxation.
