Summary
Unit activity of the sensory system of decerebrate, paralyzed cats was recorded during passive movements of the animals forepaw. Responses to dynamic parameters of the movement were observed at all levels of this channel. In contrast, information about static parameters was primarily found at low scale integrated parts of the network. At levels with a high degree of convergence, this type of information was forwarded only during the time, when dynamic parameters were transmitted. Hence, in a model, describing this sensory, nonlinear information transmission system, dynamic parameters are processed directly whereas static parameters are linked with different components of the velocitysignal by a multiplicative operation. The responses obtained by a computer simulation are compared with the physiological results.
