Abstract

The Type V pattern on lipoprotein electrophoresis is characterized by a combination of chylomicrons at the electrophoretic origin, and increased staining density of the prebetalipoproteins. This combination of chylomicrons (exogenous triglycerides) and very low density lipoproteins (endogenous triglycerides) is often described in descriptive phrases which are synonymous with Type V: familial endogenous and exogenous hyperglyceridemia, familial mixed hyperlipemia.

Supported, in part, by N.I.H. Grant 1 RO1 HD 04851, and by the General Clinical Research Center Grant RR-00068-10. A portion of this work was done during Dr. Glueck’s tenure as an Established Investigator of the American Heart Association, 1971–1976.
