Zusammenfassung
Berufskrankheiten werden meist dadurch erkannt, daß besondere Krankheiten bei Menschen, die in derselben Umgebung leben und am selben Platz arbeiten, gehäuft auftreten. Ist erst einmal Verdacht geschöpft, werden durch epidemiologische Studien Grösse, Ausmaß und Bedeutung der einzelnen Krankheitsbilder ermittelt. Gleichzeitig laufen in den meisten Fällen Laborversuche an, die das schädliche Agens isolieren und seine Wirkungsweise (mechanism of action) klären sollen. Schließlich schaltet sich sehr häufig der Gesetzgeber ein, verlangt ausreichenden Schutz am Arbeitsplatz und kontrolliert die Schutzmaßnahmen.
