Anti-Ischemic Effect of 1-Hydroxy Derivatives of Nitroxyl Bioantioxidants

  • Chapter
Bioactive Spin Labels

Abstract

The realization of pharmacological effects of nitroxyl radicals, i.e., their antitumor, radiosensitizing, anti-aggregating, and possibly, neuropsychotropic activity, appears to be largely determined by the free radical nitroxyl moiety [1]. Nitroxyls are known to be effective traps for reactive radicals, especially, for the radicals which are formed during oxidation of the organic compounds [2, 3]. Similar to their precursors, sterically hindered nitrous heterocycles, they prove to be effective antioxidants [2].
