Abstract
The focus of interest of those who study new proteinases in a living system is different from those who use proteinases as a tool in the specific fragmentation of proteins. In the first case, investigators purify a new enzyme, they determine bonds cleaved in its native substrate and propose eventually a synthetic substrate for its assay. Interested primarily in the biological meaning of the observed proteolysis, the investigators usually do not try to use the enzyme for cleavage of other proteins far from their interests. In this way, the enzyme may never become a tool of protein chemistry.
