Zusammenfassung
Die Existenz lebendiger Systeme ist nicht allein aus ihren stofflichen und energetischen Vorgängen und Wandlungen heraus, aus der Physik und Chemie, erklärbar. Voraussetzung für die funktionelle Ordnung lebendiger Systeme, für ihre Organisation, ist ein intensiver Informationsaustausch auf allen Ebenen, innerhalb der Zellen ebenso wie zwischen den Zellen eines Vielzellers oder zwischen den Individuen. Darüber hinaus gehört die Fähigkeit der Lebewesen, bestimmte Ereignisse in der Umgebung rechtzeitig registrieren, um darauf in „nützlicher“ Weise reagieren zu können, zu den notwendigen Eigenschaften aller Organismen vom Bakterium bis zum Menschen. Die lebendigen Systeme sind nicht nur thermodynamische, sie sind auch kommunikative Systeme.
