Entwicklung der Knieendoprothetik, Indikation und sozioökonomische Gesichtspunkte

Zusammenfassung

Die ersten operativen Behandlungsversuche bei Gonarthrose gehen auf Verneuil 1860 (Steinberg u. Steinberg 2000) zurück. Er versuchte, nach Resektion der femoralen und tibialen Gelenkflächen durch Interposition verschiedener Materialien wie z. B. Nylon, Fascia lata u. a. eine Verbesserung der Mobilität bei arthrotischen Kniegelenken zu erreichen (Verneuil 1860). Ein ähnlicher Ansatz mit Resektion der Gelenkflächen wurde von Ferguson verfolgt. Er konnte bei einem Teil der Patienten eine mobile Pseudarthrosenbildung erreichen. Das Ausmaß der Beweglichkeit ging allerdings mit einer zunehmenden Instabilität des Gelenks einher (Riley 1976).
