Abstract

Atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation is an accepted procedure to treat the patients with both types of atrial fibrillation, paroxysmal and persistent AF. Unfortunately the long-term results of this procedure is at about 75% in paroxysmal AF and 55-60% in persistent AF, although a wide spectrum of success rates between different studies may be observed. In addition to the relatively low success rates the procedure is time consuming and there is a long learning curve. Different technological developments aim to simplify the procedure in order the procedure to be done in centers with less experience at an accepted complication and high success rates.
