Zusammenfassung
Organisationen bestimmen als machtvolle korporative Akteure die Abläufe der modernen, funktional differenzierten Gesellschaft. Insbesondere als Unternehmen in der Wirtschaft, als Schulen und Universitäten im Bildungs- und Wissenschaftssystem oder als öffentlichrechtliche Fernsehsender im Medienbereich sind sie unverzichtbar für das Funktionieren der modernen Gesellschaft. Wirtschaftsunternehmen sind die Produzenten unseres Wohlstands und Bildungsorganisationen und Medienagenturen sozialisieren die natürlichen Personen als kompetente Gesellschaftsmitglieder und mehr oder weniger kritische Bürger. Andererseits entwickeln sich Organisationen aber zu Gebilden eigener Art mit einer eigenen, im Vergleich zu den individuellen Akteuren erweiterten Handlungsfähigkeit, die ihre eigenen Ziele verfolgen und der Kontrolle ihrer Schöpfer weitgehend entglitten sind. Der Ruf nach der moralischen Regelung von Organisationen wird immer lauter, und dies insbesondere in Hinblick auf die Wirtschaft. Dabei stoßen wirtschaftliche Funktionsmoral und funktionsübergreifende Moralvorstellungen aufeinander, etwa bei der Diskussion über „corporate social responsibility“ oder „corporate citizenship“ im Unternehmensbereich und allgemein auf dem akademisch florierenden Feld der Wirtschaftsethik.
