Abstract
The American Dialect Society invites membership from colleagues overseas who wish to keep up on developments in English language studies in North America. The Society was formed in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in December 1889, to investigate the spoken English of the United States and Canada. It now sponsors three publications: Publication of the American Dialect Society which is devoted to substantial linguistic studies; American Speech which contains short pieces directed at a broad spectrum of language interests; and a lively Newsletter published three times in the academic year to keep the membership in touch with the activities of the Society and of other organizations with overlapping interests. Dues, payable according to the publication year of American Speech, are $ 15.00.
