Breast Cancer Management for Surgeons

Abstract

Nipple reconstruction usually represents the final stage of the breast reconstruction journey, often months or years after the initial diagnosis of breast cancer. There is evidence that recreating the nipple-areola complex leads to higher satisfaction and better acceptance of a new body image. Nipple and areola reconstruction techniques are constantly evolving, with some eponymous techniques being abandoned due to poor long-term cosmetic outcomes and newer techniques gaining ground. In this chapter the most common procedures used by the modern oncoplastic surgeon along with more recent advances in non-surgical reconstruction techniques are described.
