Abstract

Even when in each particular malformation the authors present the specific results for bowel and urinary control, in this particular chapter, a more comprehensive analysis of the available literature is presented, concerning the follow-up of these patients, the way to evaluate the results, and the different scores and methods that every author follows to define what is “good” and what is “bad” in terms of functional results. A discussion is presented concerning the deficiencies of current scores in the literature, followed by the authors’ way to evaluate the functional results. Based on an extensive literature review, the authors present a critical analysis of the different methods of evaluation including the so-called anorectal angle seen in contrast enemas, MRI evaluation, transanal ultrasound, rectal manometry, and other methods. The problem of urinary control is also discussed in this chapter, as well as the long-term evaluation of the quality of the life and psychological and sexual problems.
