Zusammenfassung
Hunger und Sättigung sind für das Überleben unentbehrlich und werden durch ein komplexes und präzises Regelwerk gesteuert, das über zahlreiche Botenstoffe und Rezeptoren sowohl Informationen aus der Peripherie erhält, als auch von Kognition, Sinneswahrnehmungen und Gelerntem beeinflusst werden kann. Die Informationen dieses Regelwerks laufen vor allem im Hypothalamus und im Hirnstamm zusammen. Das Gehirn erhält so eine Nettoinformation über die momentane Energieversorgung sowie die vorhandenen Energiespeicher und kann ein Gleichgewicht zwischen Nahrungsaufnahme und Energieverbrauch aufrechterhalten. Diese sogenannte Energiehomöostase ermöglicht ein langfristig konstantes Körpergewicht.
