Zusammenfassung
Von den im Syllabus (1964) zur Familie gerechneten Triben, Buxeae, Stylocereae und Simmondsieae, rechnen viele moderne Autoren nur noch die ersten zwei zu den enger begrenzten Buxaceen. Für Simmondsia wird meistens die monotypische Familie Simmondsiaceae anerkannt. Die Klassifikation dieser und einiger ähnlicher Sippen bleibt allerdings unsicher. Moderne Klassifikationsvorschläge werden duch Tabelle 171 veranschaulicht.
