Abstract
Protoplast fusion and somatic hybridization in the major cereals has been limited by the inability to regenerate plants from isolated protoplasts. Embryogenic cultures from immature embryos and inflorescences provide the only examples of plant regeneration from isolated cereal protoplasts (1,2).
