Abstract
Umbilical and epigastric hernias are commonly encountered by many clinicians. Patients may present with concern over the bulge or abdominal pain with straining. Imaging can be useful for both diagnosis and for operative planning. In this chapter, we cover when imaging is indicated and the suggested modalities. For those interested in performing their own bedside ultrasounds we cover the basic approach to this. Finally, we review relevant anatomy and findings on both ultrasound and computed tomography. Figures are referenced to demonstrate all the pertinent findings. The covered content is useful to anyone diagnosing hernias, radiologists describing the imaging findings of hernias, or surgeons who are reading their own images and planning an operative repair.
