Functional Illness of the Head and Neck

Abstract

The so-called ‘sinus headache’ is a misnomer that has entered into the common lexicon. Sinusitis is frequently identified as the aetiology of facial pain but is rarely the cause when pain is the predominant and primary complaint. Misdiagnosis of sinusitis is responsible for inappropriate antibiotic use. This chapter will review items on history to help delineate the aetiology of facial pain, as well as the management of common causes of facial pain and headache.
