Abstract

Calcium is essential for skeletal integrity and plays a crucial role in the function of all of the living cells of the body. The intracellular and intravascular concentration of calcium in the blood is maintained within a narrow range. Increases or decreases in serum and intracellular calcium concentrations may be caused by a wide range of etiologies and can lead to profound changes in organ function.
