Abstract
This chapter explores children’s sense of safety as part of their subjective wellbeing in Greece. Though self-reports, children (n = 842) aged 10, scored how they feel about safety in the different contexts where they grow up. The study is part of The Children’s Worlds: International Survey on Children’s Well-Being (ISCWeB) and was conducted in both rural and urban schools of Epirus. Findings show that the safest context children in Epirus Greece find is at home. This sense of safety is inter-correlated in different contexts and is found to be connected to levels of participation, support and respect children experience from significant others (parents, teachers and peers). Maslow’s theory is considered, and the implications of the findings emphasise the importance of relational wellbeing that positions relationships at the heart of feeling happy, healthy, valued and ‘actualised’.
