Abstract

Modern advances in imaging modality technology have forever altered diagnosis and management strategies for processes encountered within the vascular system. However, very little formal instruction within non-radiology disciplines exists for practitioners on what is available and optimal to answer clinical inquiries. As a result much confusion and debate stemming from misunderstanding of the technology’s capabilities and limitations exist. Several imaging modalities are germane to the vascular system, and the ordering physician bears some of the responsibility in assuring proper study ordering and if necessary communicating with appropriate personnel as to what information is desired. This will require some general knowledge of imaging technology, how images are acquired, common errors, and post-image processing capability.
