Abstract

Dental professionals are likely to encounter patients who have eating disorders. This chapter explains the various types of eating disorder as well as the epidemiology. Also covered are the mental health, behavioural and medical complications and how eating disorders may impact on quality of life. The effect on oral and dental health and the principles of multi-disciplinary management are outlined. Dental professionals have an important part to play in the overall care of these patients.
