Abstract

Cheilitis granulomatosa nd Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome together with its umbrella term orofacial granulomatosis are rare diseases of unknown etiology for which numerous therapeutic options were administered with various success rates. A plethora of differential diagnoses have to be taken into account, altering also possible therapeutic interventions. Therefore, orofacial granulomatosis remains an exclusion diagnosis. The scope of this chapter is to give an overview of diagnostic caveats and pitfalls, to discuss differential diagnoses to be considered and to highlight potential therapeutical interventions (with various success rates) in orofacial granulomatosis and its subentities Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome and cheilitis granulomatosa.
