Abstract
The African American community is vibrant and complex. Mental health within the African American community mirrors this complexity and varies tremendously depending on the unique group within the African American community in which the individuals belong. This chapter discusses mental health issues that exist within the LGBTQ+, elderly, and youth populations of the African American community and the economically disadvantaged, single parents, and incarcerated individuals. This chapter also outlines specific issues pertinent to these populations as well as ways to support the mental health of individuals who identify with these populations.
