Abstract

In this paper we draw attention to the importance of the following effects in electron-atom collisions:

  1. a)

    spin-orbit effects extracted from the electron-photon angular correlations in electron impact excitation of heavy atoms;

  2. b)

    interference effects in electron impact ionization of atoms extracted from spin effects in collisions with polarised electrons and polarised atoms.
