Abstract

Despite considerable experimental work1, no general agreement could yet be reached in the analysis of the long time dynamical behavior of spin glass systems. The difficulty of such an analysis arises from the existence of a very broad non-stationary distribution of relaxation times. The large width of the distribution makes it impossible to probe all the characteristic times; extrapolations must be made; in particular, it must be assumed that the correct expression for the response function can be derived even though it is only checked in a limited range of experimental times. The non-stationary processes imply a time dependent distribution. This makes the determination of the equilibrium response difficult; it introduces at least one extra parameter, the age of the system, which is the time spent below the freezing temperature.
