Abstract

Cis-dichlorodiammine platinum II, or cisplatin (c-DDP) , has become one of the principal chemotherapeutic agents in the treatment of some solid tumours, particularly testicular (1) and ovarian cancers (2) . A primary factor limiting its use is the associated nephrotoxicity (3) . The majority of patients with advance ovarian carcinoma who enter remission after treatment with cisplatin only maintain this state for a relatively short period of time. This appears to be a result of the presence of residual micro-metastic disease. Radiotherapy treatment involving the irradiation of the whole abdomen might increase the prospects of cure in these patients, but might also result in increased nephrotoxicity.
