Abstract
A deleterious effect on renal tubular transport is an important criteria for establishing the nephrotoxic potential of a drug or chemical. In this context the transport of the organic ions p-aminohippurate (PAH) and tetraethylammonium (TEA) into renal cortical slices has been extensively studied (Hirsch, 1976). For example, Kluwe and Hook (1978) have suggested that renal cortical slice transport of organic anions is a sensitive indicator of gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity.
