Abstract
Papillomaviruses are found in a wide variety of species (see review zur Hausen, 1977). They induce epithelial or fibro epithelial proliferations, usually for limited periods of time. In most cases spontaneous regression occurs within a period of several weeks or months after initial appearance. The following report summarizes the present knowledge on papillomavirus infections in man, their mode of maturation, and their possible involvement in the etiology of malignant tumors.
