Abstract

The family, the basic unit of human organization in most societies, perpetuates human and societal existence by performing the classic functions of socialization and biological reproduction. Because families are part of such a powerful agency in the formation of adult attitudes, familial relations are a subject of great interest.Familial relations are also critical in the development of active, productive individuals. William B. Goode (1959) found “emotional maintenance” to be important in modern family dynamics. Seldin (1972) reviewed the family of the addict and found emotional maintenance to be highlighted in the family interaction of urban populations.
