The ability to obtain genetic information about human gametes and preembryos offers an important option to couples at risk for offspring with genetic disease. Rather than aborting an already established pregnancy after prenatal diagnosis, a couple at risk could undergo IVF and transfer only those embryos1 free of the genetic disorder of concern.
