Abstract
The filamentous fungus Aspergillus niger produces a number of extracellular enzymes as well as primary and secondary metabolites, which are of considerable industrial interest. To facilitate molecular-genetic studies on the regulation of gene expression and protein secretion in this organism, the availability of an efficient gene-transfer system is of paramount importance. In this paper we describe the development of two such systems. The first one is a homologous transformation system, with a vector containing the A. niger pyrG gene as a selectable marker. In the second system, a vector containing the hygromycin B resistance gene as a dominant selectable marker is used for transformation. This system is also applicable to A. nidulans.
