Abstract
Sentences composed of either short or long words were presented on a video screen connected to a computer, using various levels of segmentation. For sentences with short words, the fastest reading times were obtained with segmentation level which divided sentences into Noun Phrase and Verb Phrase. For sentences with long words, the optimal presentation was almost wordfor word. The significance of these results is discussed in the light of various models of psycholinguistic processing.
