The Mitochondrial Respiratory Chain

  • Chapter
Bioelectrochemistry I

Part of the book series: Ettore Majorana Institutional Sciences Series ((SIPC))

Abstract

The previous lecturers have discussed the properties of oxidation-reduction reactions. The purpose of this chapter is to describe the experimental techniques which have been utilized in studying the mitochondrial respiratory chain and our current ideas concerning the electrochemical behavior of oxidative phosphorylation. There are several important thermodynamic parameters which the experimentalyst needs to measure in order to attempt to describe an oxidation-reduction system.
