Abstract
Intracellular recording combined with voltage clamp methods have been used to examine the effects of octopamine (OA) and serotonin (5-HT) on voltage dependent membrane currents of various identified and unidentified neurones in Aplysia californica. Bath administration of drugs at known concentrations revealed that OA and 5-HT exert their effects at similar concentrations. Both amines elicit slow voltage dependent inward currents in abdominal LB cells, although concentration dependent differences in early outward currents were noted for certain voltage levels. Serotonin but not OA enhanced frequency dependent spike broadening of pleural sensory cells.
