Part of the book series: Contemporary Biomedicine ((CB,volume 4))

Abstract

Despite the fact that researchers have been studying lung tumors of mice since Livingood’s observation in 1896 (1), the question of the cells of origin and other fundamental facets of these tumors are still being investigated. The biology of these tumors is of interest since the mouse lung tumor assay developed by Shimkin and his coworkers is now being considered for more general use as a method of screening chemicals (2). This assay is discussed in detail in this volume (3).
