Abstract
What sets SPARC apart from other RISC architectures is that it is not just an architecture. It’s an entire system solution for high-performance, low-cost RISC computers based on open standards. The complete SPARC environment includes: a range of compatible CPU implementations from different vendors; a licensable, standard UNIX operating system, a window system and graphical user interface; essential file transfer software; optimized buses; an ABI distribution format for application software; and a wealth of compilers and development tools.
