Abstract

Over the past several years, laparoscopic techniques have been applied to the surgical management of almost all abdominal disorders, including both benign and malignant intestinal diseases. Although laparoscopic cholecystectomy has clearly gained acceptance as a major advance in abdominal surgery, having readily apparent benefits over conventional surgery (1), the role of laparoscopic techniques in managing intestinal disorders remains unclear.
