Abstract

By now you should have a good understanding of the IOS command structure and many of the configuration commands and concepts used to set up a router for a small business. In this chapter, I’ll cover some of the more advanced features of the Cisco IOS. These features include creating local users on your router, configuring Secure Shell, recovering a lost password, backing up and upgrading the Cisco IOS, as well as backing up your router’s configuration. You will also learn about performance tuning your ACLs by ordering the rules so they work more efficiently, and about configuring the Cisco firewall’s E-mail Inspection Engine (EIE) that can help protect your e-mail server from malicious activity directed from the Internet.
