Abstract

Diverticular disease is a common disease. It predominantly affects people over the age of 60 years, who live in a Western society and have a slight female preponderance. It is increasing in prevalence and is thought to affect up to 60% of this population [1]. Given its high prevalence in society, it is surprisingly indolent condition with complications arising in only a small minority of patients [2].
