Abstract

Increasing levels of software on rolling stock lead to the need of an efficient software configuration management. Up to now the existing systems at Deutsche Bahn AG (DB) are used within the maintenance cycle only for hardware components. The future software configuration management database has to fit into these existing solutions which are mostly based on SAP standard software. The overall concept for the software configuration management involves the series ownersIoperators and the DB internal software coordination department which controls the target states for the vehicles. The maintenance facilities are responsible for the update of the existing software configurations. As a second step the software itself may be stored on a separate server for authorised access of the relevant maintenance facilities. The draft time schedule for the realisation of the software configuration management includes a specification phase, an implementation phase, and a test phase. After the completion of these project phases the database will be run on a routine basis.
