Abstract
Two bore holes intersecting the Kupferschiefer mineralisation in the Mansfeld/Sangerhausen mining district of Germany, have been analysed for base and precious metals by low-detection limit assays. The analyses from both bore holes revealed a zone of anomalously high Au (= 282 ppb), Pt (= 53.5 ppb), and Pd (= 16.5 ppb) values within the basal portion of the asymmetrically zoned base metal mineralisation. The precious metal zone is enclosed by and appears to be part of the epigenetic redox-controlled base metal mineralisation that straddles the Kupferschiefer horizon in this part of the southern margin of the Southern Permian Basin.
